Its amazing to look back at 2007 and find what has happened, and what has not. I finally released the beta of the Modern Sagas Player’s Guidebook. It is, ultimately, final. It still needs the editor’s touch, and the archetypes aren’t built. However, it is done. What surprises me is how long it took. I expected to release it not long after Fantasy Sagas. I am astonished to find that I am releasing over a year and a half later!

But this has been an odd year. It seemed that everything that could work against me has. What is worse, while I have worked so much on Modern, I have not been able to get any of the other dozen projects or so finished because of it. All of development has been on hold simply because of this book.

It is for this reason that I am holding off on the Sci-Fi Sagas. Some interesting articles I have read about the future of RPGs predicts that this year is the year for Sci-Fi. I personally do not put much stock in industry predictions, even from the so called experts. Even if they were correct, Ironwood is not their company. The truth is, with a glut of sci-fi products on the way, why continue flooding the market? I have two great games that are screaming for support right now.

That is exactly what I am planning on doing.

Ironwood recently sign with Marco Morte to do the illustrations for an adventure module for Fantasy Sagas. I also have two stand alone modern modules in the wings. My current plan is to finish an adventure for each setting, plus one supplement, and the Modern Paradigm. That will get me started. I am hoping for much more.

From this point forward I will be blogging about general development thoughts concerning the type of project I am working. This does not mean I will be blogging about the specific project. That would ultimately give away information that Game Masters may want to keep tucked away. However, there is more than enough thoughts on how I develop my material, and what I am trying to do, to keep this blog going for some time.

I can breathe a sigh of relief now. My part in the Modern Sagas Player’s Guidebook is over now. Time to change gears, a welcome change at that, and get to doing what I love most about game development.

Anyways, thank you to all who have traveled this road with me. Thank you for reading, and experiencing these trials with me. Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and above all, your faith that it would get done, and that I would do it. I am proud of the book, and the effort that went into it. More than anything, I am proud of 2008. It may not have produced the volume of titles I wanted, but it did produce Modern Sagas. That is a big step in the right direction.

Until next time, Happy Gaming!
